Many of us have a hard enough time selecting where we should go for lunch – the process of selecting a contractor for your pool installation couldn’t be much easier, right? We work with homeowners all of the time that discuss their nightmare experiences with swimming pool contractors. The players change but the stories are always the same. Typical nightmare experiences include:
- Pools that are not done on-time
- Contractors that are not responsive
- Expectations falling short
- Budgets exceeded / non-transparent billing
We composed this article to help you distinguish the good from the bad when it comes to choosing a swimming pool installer. We hope you’ll find these tips useful when confronted with the task yourself.
1: Ask your contractor for references
Any contractor that delivers a quality product and experience should have clients that are willing to vouch for him. We often have clients of our own encourage us to have prospects reach out to them for a testimonial. It is not uncommon practice to provide a phone number or e-mail address and first name to someone who is looking to learn more about the way we treat our clients and each project. If your contractor is not willing to provide real references, you’ll need to ask yourself: perhaps they have not had overwhelming success with their projects?
Simply ask us for references – we’re happy to provide a few names from recent projects.
2: Ask your contractor about timeline, and how they’ll schedule your installation
We often hear of situations where homeowners are strung along by swimming pool contractors who, for whatever reason, refuse to complete their projects in a timely manner. At Elvio and Sons, we understand what a major investment your pool and patio is for you. We also understand that you want it completed in a timely manner. Here’s a general rule of thumb schedule for when it comes to installing your swimming pool and patio.
- Fiberglass pools: Pool is installed within 5 days of groundbreaking; Patio can be installed shortly after (depending on ground conditions and time required for ground settling)
- Gunite pools: Pool is installed within 45 days of groundbreaking; Patio can be installed shortly after.
Now that you understand a few things that you should be asking your swimming pool contractor, why not consider Elvio and Sons. We encourage you to do your research on our firm, see our testimonials, view our completed projects galleries, and read about how we’ll go above and beyond to create a sound outdoor living space that will last you for years to come.
